Sunset at Renmark
Big4 Riverfront is a favourite park of ours. We had good sites with river views again like last August on our way home from the Flinders Ranges. We still found a few things to see even though we didn't do the scenic drive to the Murray River cliffs this time. Bob drove us out to the no 5 lock and a scenic park on the river. We took a stroll around the riverfront back in town and discovered a very unusual houseboat laden down with so much stuff we wondered how it stayed afloat. We recognised the Chookman a colourful character who used to have a show at Daly Waters pub. He appeared with a chook on his head as he sang. He also had some chooks onboard! Along with a fuel stove and many other household appliances for a gold coin donation we went onboard. Later we saw him sail past the caravan park.
John sat on an old chair to have his photo taken and later in the day when he realised he had lost his set of keys, the houseboat was one of the places he retraced his steps to. Luckily the keys had been found on the chair and handed in to the local pub where John collected them. Thanks to Bob for driving John around.
We shared a roast lamb dinner in Bob and Elaine's caravan and followed by lamingtons and coffee for dessert. Before dinner we had a happy hour thankful that the motorhome keys were found.
Burra was our destination for Tuesday, about 200klms from Renmark. Bob and Elaine hadn't seen Morgan before so we had a morning cuppa at this scenic Murray River old town.
The Morgan Ferry
We sat down by the river all rugged up, it was a bit chilly. Later visited the craft shop in the old railway station building. I bought some jams and Elaine a present for her daughter. The boys sat outside on the "bored Husbands " seat.
Burra was reached by lunchtime and settled into the caravan park near town. A short walk on the bridge over Burra Creek takes you to this historic town. We had lunch in the park then walked into town. The boys had a short walk around while Elaine and I looked at a few gift and clothing shops before having afternoon coffee at the Gaslight cafe.
